 Infestation and symptoms

The beetle bores into healthy trees, making round, small approximate 1mm holes. The beetle makes tunnels, where it grows and feeds on the fungus, Fusarium euwallaceae. The fungus disrupts the flow of nutrients and water which leads to branch dieback and death of the tree.

Symptoms vary in different tree species. Signs of infestation include wet staining from sap and gumming, white powder, frass, or sawdust. The beetle’s successful colonisation of a reproductive host often results in wilting and shedding of leaves, and dead branches.
